THE CENTRE FOR BLACK AND AFRICAN ARTS AND CIVILIZATION (CBAAC) PREPARES TO CELEBRATE FESTAC @ 40
STANDING ON THE GOLDEN MARK OF OUR HEROES …
The year 2017 will mark 40 solid years since Nigeria hosted the “Almighty” FESTAC ‘77 which brought many nationals to our dear Country Nigeria. The National Theatre, National Stadium, National Commission for Museum and Monuments, Tafawa Balewa Square, Festac Town and Lagos City Hall were the major venues used for most activities of FESTAC”77.
While the Durbar, took place in Race Course Kaduna, and the Boat Regatta took place in Lagos. These two special events presented by Nigeria, were very spectacular and mind- blowing. The events captured the interests of those that watched especially the foreign visitors and artiste. The Presentation of Durbar was very colourful, impressive and memorable.
Naturally, it is expected that before today, a replica of such event would have been hosted by one of the Black and African Countries or Communities especially Ethiopia whose government sponsored, planned and put up the Star Country Exhibition which greatly contributed to the success of the festival.
Notwithstanding, CBAAC had continued to celebrate the memoirs and anniversaries of FESTAC “77.
CBAAC in the last few years celebrated FESTAC @ 30 during the 34th session of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization at the First Floor, UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, from the 22nd-27th October, 2007, where they mounted a state-of-the-art Exhibition to mark the 30th Anniversary of FESTAC
They say life begins @ 40 and we hope and strongly believe that as CBAAC prepares to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of FESTAC in Nigeria, come February, 2017, new life will emerge again!
However, CBAAC promises to unite nationals and various cultures as they prepare to celebrate FESTAC @ 40 in Abuja and Lagos States respectively. Plans are on top gear to make it happen in Nigeria, come February and as part of her preparation CBAAC have lined out major aspects that will be featured on next year’s show. They are Art Exhibitions, Colloquium, Contemporary and Traditional Music Performances, Drama, Dances, of various features, Literature, Book Exhibitions amongst others.
